My Background

As a therapist, my journey into counselling was shaped by my personal experiences of undergoing therapy in my late 30s, alongside a decade of working with young individuals with physical disabilities and special education needs. Through my own transformative therapy, I discovered the profound impact that open dialogue and deep listening can have on your life.

Having supported adults and young people through various life challenges, I have developed a deep respect for the diversity and uniqueness of each individual. Driven by my passion, I am dedicated to continuing my work by providing compassionate and empathetic support to those facing life’s challenges or grappling with emotional distress, utilising the powerful one-to-one relationship that counselling offers.

My Experience

As a qualified integrative counsellor, I have gained a wealth of experience working with both adults and young people. In addition to my work with individuals, I have also gained valuable experience as a family counsellor, allowing me to understand and address the intricate dynamics and complex issues that can arise within family systems.

Throughout my practice, I have supported individuals dealing with various presenting issues such as anxiety, depression, anger, self-esteem concerns, loss and bereavement, self-harm, LGBT+ anxiety, relationship problems, and work-related issues. Furthermore, I have directly worked with young individuals within school and college settings, further enhancing my understanding of their unique needs and challenges.

How I work

At the core of my therapeutic approach is the fundamental belief that individuals are the true experts of their own lives, possessing an inherent desire and capacity to reach their fullest potential. When you engage in counselling with me, you will find a safe and confidential space where you are encouraged to freely explore and process challenging thoughts and emotions. My aim is to create a sensitive and compassionate environment that promotes your increased self-awareness and understanding, empowering you to make meaningful choices and positive changes that enrich your life. Guided by a client centred perspective, your unique needs and goals remain the driving force behind our therapy sessions.

I also recognise that traditional talk therapy may not always be the most effective approach, particularly for younger individuals or those who may struggle with verbal communication. With this understanding, I draw upon my experience and expertise to incorporate a range of creative techniques and diverse therapeutic tools. By utilising various approaches tailored to your specific needs, I strive to meet you where you are and support your growth within our therapeutic relationship.

Adult client , Farnham

“Before I started counselling it was something I never considered needing, now looking back I realise it has been pivotal in my growth as a person and Amanda was there to help guide that process the whole way.  Sessions were always easy and went at a pace of my choosing.  They always felt like a safe space to share and at no point did I feel uncomfortable or uneasy during them.  I fully recommend Amanda and her services to anyone and everyone”.
